Eats Everything

To say that 2011 has been a good year for Yello would be like saying Barcelona has a half decent football team. Ranked no. 34 in the world in a DJmag poll, Yello continued to be the standout night in Northern Ireland.

This year has seen them hand debuts to: Tensnake, Shonky, Simon Baker, Maya Jane Coles, Jordan Peak, Oliver $, and KiNK to name just a few. Whilst still finding time to give a platform to the best resident’s roster this country of ours has to offer. All this and an exclusive Toolroom Knights residency surely shows why they are setting the U.K. clubscene alight.

Saturday 10th December saw another debut appearance at the club. None other than “Man of the moment” Eats Everything. He should need no introduction. However, if you have been living on the moon, Eats Everything is Bristol based Dan Pearce. He exploded onto the scene with a massive debut EP on Pets Recordings. “Entrance Song” quickly became an Ibiza anthem and made DJs the world over sit up and take notice. A slew of banging releases followed, along with an essential mix, surely cementing Dan’s place in the upper echelons for some time.

With his essential mix being shortlisted for “essential mix of the year” one day before his arrival at Yello, it couldn’t have been timed any better. Via social media I watched as people talked this night up as being a possible “Night of the year”.

I arrived at Club Mynt (Yello’s home for the last 5 years) early to find room 2 filling up nicely. We all know it is hard to get people through the club doors early on so this filled me with belief that maybe those, previously mentioned, tweets and facebook status updates were bang on the money!

John Craig was behind the controls, and was filling the room with its now trademark disco tinged sound. Clubbers milled around, heads nodding while the groove was built expertly. By the time room 1 opened for business, John had created a great atmosphere with the room now full and some serious shapes being cut. As the crowds continued to come through the door, many started to make the move upstairs to the legendary room 1.

Tonight saw Timmy Stewart from Jet Project on warm up duties, and he delivered the perfect set for tonight’s headline act. He dropped some Jet Project exclusives along with tracks such as Murk’s massive new track “Amame” and Dan Ghenacia’s remix of “Wasting My time” by Zakes Bantwini. I’m super excited to see what Jet Project have lined up for us all in 2012. When the time came for Eats Everything to take to the decks, the place was buzzing with fists pumping and hands clapping.

At 1:30am I looked up from the dancefloor to see Eats Everything plugging in his headphones and taking over the controls. The entire club seemed to do the exact same thing as me, and a cheer rolled around like a Mexican wave. As his first track “Heard That” exploded onto the system the atmosphere seemed to go up a notch. The next 2 hours seemed to go by in a flash. A very animated Eats Everything danced around the DJ box and seemed to be having as much fun as we were down on the dancefloor. His set was dominated with his bass heavy sound and I’m pretty sure the Mynt soundsystem took some battering that night! The now packed dancefloor was a sweaty, heaving mass of bodies.

When we all heard the new Eats Everything rework of Sono “Keep Control” everyone seemed to pause and share a “hands in the air” moment. I’m sure there were many people there that night that weren’t old enough to be in clubs the first time this track was massive. However, Eats Everything has stamped his sound all over it and brought it right up to date for a whole new generation of clubbers to adore. We were also treated to “The Size”, the Coat Of Arms remix of “Luna”, “Entrance Song” “This is something” along with some fresh bangers which I’m sure are forthcoming releases for 2012.

When the lights came up and we knew the night was drawing to a close, the crowd united and showed their appreciated for what was a rollercoaster of a set. Eats Everything has brought something fresh to the table, and long may it continue. I am excited to see what 2012 has in store for him. I must also tip my hat to Yello, I have much admiration for what they are doing in Belfast. With yet another debut lined up for Boxing Night and a resident’s party on New Years Eve, Yello are on course to end the year with a bang!

I have been infiltrating dancefloors across the UK for the last 13 years, I consider myself a dancefloor veteran! I love writing about the thing I love.........THE WEEKEND! I am very passionate, but hope I can bring a light-hearted approach to my articles. Who knows, sometimes, they might even be funny. I am a huge supporter of the Northern Irish clubscene, I feel we have a lot to shout about. I lean toward the house, tech-house and techno side of things, so expect my contributions to fall into those categories most of the time. I work all year for that amazing trip to Ibiza in September, and I don’t think that will ever change. Oh yeah...............I DJ as one half of LOCODRUM too.
